Not only is Groton the submarine capital of the world, but also our location between the Mystic River and the Thames River makes us a prime tourist destination. Aquarium - One of the world’s leading marine research facilities, the Mystic Aquarium offers both entertainment and education with their informative exhibits.

Bicycling & Hiking - Whether you rent a bike or bring your own, we’re sure you’ll be pleased with the variety of bicycle and hiking trails in the area.

Casinos - Foxwoods is the world’s largest casino and Mohegan Sun Casino follows closely behind. Both casinos offer, gaming, entertainment and restaurants for your enjoyment.

Colleges - Many of New England’s top colleges are near the Groton Inn.

Ferries - The Cross Sound Ferry travels between New London to Orient Point Long Island. The Block Island Ferry travels between Point Judith to Block Island.

Fishing - Whether your sport is river fishing or ocean fishing there are charter companies and guides to help you get your catch.

Golf - Choose from over a dozen places to play golf. Courses vary from par 54 to par 72. Reservations are suggested for tee times.

Museums - The Mystic Seaport Aquarium may be the best-known museum in our area, but there are many others to visit such as the hands on interactive children’s museum. Learn about the history of this area rich with nautical life or visit an art museum.

Performing arts - There is a grand variety of opera, theatre, dance, dinner theatre, exhibitions, and art colonies.

Sailing and cruises - The water activities here are glorious. Pick a cruise that suits your style. There are sailing cruises, river cruises, light house cruises, and oceanographic cruises.

Shopping - Malls, outlet stores, arts and crafts pavilions, and colonial style shopping await your perusal.

Spectator sports - From College to professional sports to auto racing, the Groton area has it all.

Submarines - There is a rich submarine history in the area, visit one of the US Navy’s facilities to learn about submarines.
